A demon Giles and Ethan Rayne summoned in their wild youth returns to Sunnydale looking for them by possessing the bodies of the dead or unconscious. It also marks the possessed with a tattoo. When Giles sees the body, he recognizes the person from his past and essentially shuts down out of shame and fear.
