Key Terminology

November 29th, 2011 by admin

Throughout the podcast you may here us refer to things that maybe you don’t quite know the meaning of, so I put together a few of these for your knowledge.

retcon: When we say retcon in the podcast we are referring to retroactive continuity. What this means is that there was a deliberate changing of previously established facts in a work of serial fiction. For example: Dawn Summers in Season 5

trope(s): Tropes are devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members’ minds and expectations. For example: Big Bad – A Big Bad is a character, usually a character with evil designs (though it may also be a situation, such as a comet heading towards the Earth), that is behind all of the other bad happenings. The Big Bad can (and often does) exert his effect across a number of episodes, and even an entire season.
