Buffy, now knowing about the Initiative and vice versa is given access and a debriefing by Professor Walsh and Riley. Willow worries that Buffy’s not only getting involved with something she knows nothing about, but she’s also not making enough time to see her friends and instead spending time with Riley or being paged away by the Initiative. Buffy and the Initiative are sent on patrol with Riley to capture, not kill, a Polgara demon for Walsh.

Episode 68: S4E12 A New Man

Ethan Rayne is back in town and we all know what that means – trouble. Giles feels out of the loop as he learns that Buffy is dating Riley, that she’s enamored with Prof. Walsh, and that Riley is a commando. Giles goes to see Professor Walsh and is further insulted when Walsh tells him that Buffy lacks a good father figure. Ethan Rayne turns up and he and Giles spend the night drinking for old times sake.

Episode 67: S4E11 Doomed

Picking up where last week left off, Buffy and Riley argue a bit about each one having kept secrets from the other but an earthquake interrupts their conversation. Buffy worries that the earthquiake signifies the end of the world, and turns out to be right. The Vahrall demons want to end the world via the Sunnydale Hellmouth, using the blood of a man, the bones of a child, the Word of Valios (a talisman that Giles possesses and believed was fake), and three sacrifices.

Episode 66: S4E10 Hush

The entire town of Sunnydale falls under the spell of a group of fairy tale monsters called the Gentlemen. They steal everyone’s voices, then set out to cut out seven hearts as a part of a ritual. No longer able to verbalize, the gang uses interesting methods to get to the bottom of the case. Even The Initiative is scrambling to try and contain the situation but they have no clue what is happening.

Episode 65: S4E9 Something Blue

Willow is still reeling from Oz’s departure and this is worsened when she drops by his place to see all of his stuff is gone. Desperate to find some peace, Willow casts a spell which she intends to use to “wish” broken heart to heal. Instead, it backfires and causes other definitive statements from her to come true. Giles goes blind, Xander becomes a literal demon magnet, and Buffy and Spike fall in love and get engaged.

Episode 64: S4E8 Pangs

At the groundbreaking ceremony for a new cultural center, Xander, working for the construction crew, accidentally discovers ancient tribal ground of the natives which was buried in an earthquake. While in the area, Xander releases Hus, a Native American vengeance spirit, looking to payback the “white settlers” who took his people’s land.

Episode 63: S4E7 The Initiative

Riley’s interest in Buffy has developed into a full on crush even though he denies it to his two close buddies who both see that he likes her. While he tries to sort all that out, Spike, who was captured last week by the commandos, is being held prisoner in a hi-tech facility underneath the University. He’s told by another vampire that they will attempt to drug him with tainted blood once they’ve starved him to near insanity. As it turns out, Riley is an agent of this military-like demon hunting crusade called the Initiative.

Episode 62: S4E6 Wild at Heart

One night while dusting a vamp on campus, Spike is watching Buffy and hearing her complain about any “real” challenges in slaying lately. He then begins to talk aloud to himself about how he’s gonna really get her this time when out of nowhere Spike is shot with a tazer. Unable to move we see our mysterious commando-people drag him off into the woods.

Meanwhile, Oz escapes from his cage while in wolf mode, runs across another werewolf and wakes up next to her naked in the wilderness the next morning.

Episode 61: S4E5 Beer Bad

Xander gets a job bartending at a local college hangout where Buffy drops by only find Parker romancing yet another girl. Buffy is invited by some upperclassman to stay and party and she drowns her sorrows over Parker by drinking lots of beer.  Problem is the beer seems to have some lasting after-affects beyond the usual hangover. Buffy becomes very animalistic towards others.

Episode 60: S4E4 Fear, Itself
